Sea-Watch and Captain Carola Rackete Enforce Human Rights Where EU Fails
Neither the EU-Commission nor any European government brought about the solution for the disembarkation of the remaining 40 survivors aboard Sea-Watch 3. In the end it was captain Carola Rackete who was both forced and willing to take responsibility and who brought the people to safety against all adversities. Without permission she entered Italian (...)

Action - 9 July 2019

Have faith leaders a special part to play as we face climate and environmental chaos ? It seems so. At the recent Climate Coalition lobby of Parliament in the UK which attracted over 12.000 people, there was a workshop given by a Muslim from Islamic Relief telling how he got a group of Imams together to educate them in the realities of climate change. They needed it, and apparently it was effective as a start. Why specially work on faith leaders ?
Apparently 50% of schools world wide (...)

en - Telling the Truth ...this Easter 2019

Action - 10 May 2019

It was over a week of non violent civil disobedience ; in the end tens of thousands took part in London, and many more elsewhere, all over the world. It was a week of disruption to traffic and normality. It was very effective. It happened because there has been a failure of politics to do anything like enough, and a failure too, to move politicians by the usual means of petitions and demonstrations. This unprecedented protest was good natured, the police response was calm and respectful (...)

In October 2018, according to the Irish Times, Ballymun was deemed to be one of the worst areas in Dublin “where widespread dumping was observed …with areas becoming more littered” “Lack of pride” was blamed for rising litter in poor areas.
This report was a challenge/opportunity for local groups in Ballymun to draw attention to the need for a collaborative effort in cleaning up the area, and in partnering with groups concerned with Care of the Earth. The the strong words of Pope Francis in (...)

Any contract is based on reciprocity, exchange and the recognition of the rights of each of the parties. From the Earth we receive everything, life and the means of life. Correspondingly, in terms of the natural contract, we have a duty of gratitude, to give back and to care for it so that it maintains its vital force in order to do what it has always done for us. But we broke this contract long ago.
Despite all the breaches of the natural contract, Mother Earth is still sending us (...)

en - Brazilian environmental activist

Témoignages - 4 April 2019

30 year ago Chico Mendez, a Brazilian environmental activist, was killed. He said “at first I thought I was fighting to save rubber trees, then I thought I was fighting to save the Amazon rainforest. Now I realise I am fighting to save humanity”.
More and more earth protectors have been killed since then and in Brazil deforestation levels are approaching a critical point of no return. 2018 has been the deadliest year of record for land and environmental defenders, especially indigenous (...)

Global Catholic Climate Movement
