en - United Nations affirms the Human Right to clean water

In a historic vote on July 28th 2010 the United Nations General Assembly affirmed the human right to water, citing concerns that nearly 900 million people worldwide lack access to clean water.

The resolution calls on countries to offer funding and other resources to help developing countries provide clean, accessible and affordable drinking water to all their people.

The 192 Assembly also called on the United Nations Member States and international organisations to offer funding, technology and other resources to help poorer countries to increase their efforts to provide clea, accessible and affordable drinking water and sanitation for everyone.

The Assembly resolution recieved 122 votes in favour and zero votes against, while 41 countries abstained from voting.
